Wisdom Teeth Extractions
Wisdom teeth or third molars are the last permanent teeth to erupt in the mouth – around the age of 18. These teeth will erupt behind the second molars. In some patients, the jawbone may not be long enough to allow for complete eruption of third molars and this can result in many different conditions necessitating the removal of one or more of these teeth. A panoramic radiograph (panorex) will be required to assess the positioning of the lower wisdom teeth. We do not take this type of x-ray in our clinic but we will gladly refer you to an oral radiology clinic to have this done.
When wisdom teeth are unable to erupt, the tissue around the tooth may become infected, inflamed and painful. It may be difficult to open your mouth or chew food. We can help. We will diagnose the reason for your discomfort and recommend a suitable treatment plan. If it is best to remove your third molars, we can provide all the care you need and ensure you are comfortable before, during and after the procedure.
